Develope a marketing calendar

All businesses should have a marketing calendar!

So what is a marketing calendar?

During the course of the year you should track where your enquiries come from and which ones lead to customers. At the same time you should record which month the enquiries come in to your business so that you can build a picture of which months are your busiest and which ones are the least busy.

Once you have compiled this data you can put this into the form of a calendar and then use this to your businesses advantage. By knowing which months in the year you already get most enquiries; you can then plan further advertising in those months to really capitalise on the months in which your customers are looking to buy.

Secondly, you can look at the months where you are short of enquiries and look at complimentary products to shore up your business in those lean months.

  1. I am trying to make out a marketing schedule for myself, but I don’t really know how far in advance to start pushing products. For example, when would you start advertising graduation stuff or back to school supplies. Is there a place online that provides a general guideline?

  2. Thanks – a great challenge. It’s hard to cope with the day-to-day needs, let alone plan ahead like this. But I can see the value

  3. Nice article.
I think it’s also very important to make a “to do list” on a daily basis.
This is a great way to become much more organized.

  4. I quickly learned that some of my businesses were very seasonal. Originally I sold a lot of summer products. After my first winter I decided to add some Christmas products which helped even things out.

  5. hi..!!!very inspiring article.i like the second paragraph ‘Once you have compiled this data you can put this into the form of a calendar and then use this to your businesses advantage. By knowing which months in the year you already get most enquiries; you can then plan further advertising in those months to really capitalise on the months in which your customers are looking to buy.’in this article.thanks for sharing this post.

  6. I’ve just bought a large whiteboard I’m using to do this. I’ve found it helps me plan each day when I’m presented in big writing and full colour every morning exactly how my marketing is going.

    Helps in focusing on projects.

  7. A very good article and one to make you think that you should always be planning the next big event/marketing campaign. Take London fashion week, they are showing Spring/Summer 2010 outfits, I don’t even know what I am wearing tomorrow let alone next year, but it certainly makes you wonder! Here at Print Hut, Plenty of Print for Everyone based in St Neots, we are always looking at ways of making sure we don’t have any quiet months but if we did we would having the strategy of overcoming them.
